About Pediatric Neurosurgical Specialists

State-of-the-Art Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric Neurosurgical Specialists provides state-of-the-art pediatric neurosurgical care to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our current practice, led by Dr. Ian Heger and Dr. Laila Mohammad, continues a longstanding tradition of pediatric neurosurgical excellence at Medical City Children’s Hospital.

Pediatric neurosurgery at Medical City Children’s traces its roots to the 1980s, when the growth of craniofacial surgery in North Texas created the need for dedicated neurosurgical expertise for children. During that time, nationally trained surgeons and hospital leaders worked together to establish a multidisciplinary program focused on caring for complex craniofacial, brain, and spine conditions. This early foundation emphasized surgical excellence, collaboration, and innovation, principles that continue to guide our care today.

Building on this legacy, Dr. David Sacco founded Pediatric Neurosurgical Specialists to further develop and formalize a dedicated pediatric neurosurgical practice serving Medical City Children’s Hospital, helping to shape the program into what it is today.

We specialize in the full spectrum of pediatric neurosurgal conditions, including craniofacial disorders, congenital conditions (such as spina bifida, encepahloceles, and complex tethered cord), hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, brain and spinal cord tumors, epieplsy, spasticity, and pediatric trauma. Our team understands the importance of communication and individualized care, and we work closely with you and your family to determine the best course of action. We treat every patient as if they were a member of our own family.
